How Astrocade’s Amir Sadeghian Is Building the Next Generation of Interactive Entertainment

When generative AI burst into the mainstream, most industries immediately imagined how it could automate existing work. Amir Sadeghian saw something different. Rather than asking how AI could help professional game developers build faster, he asked a much bigger question: what happens when anyone can create an interactive world as easily as posting a video on social media?

That question became Astrocade.

Founded in 2022 by Sadeghian, his brother Ali Sadeghian, and AI pioneer Fei-Fei Li, Astrocade is building an AI-native platform where users can create games and other interactive experiences simply by describing them in natural language. The company recently raised $56 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, NVIDIA, Google’s AI Futures Fund, and Sea, reflecting growing confidence that AI is poised to reshape one of the world’s largest entertainment industries.

For Sadeghian, however, gaming has always been just the beginning.

“We are more than just gaming,” he explains. “It could be companions. It could be education. It could be anything interactive.”

Long before ChatGPT introduced millions of people to generative AI, Sadeghian believed artificial intelligence would eventually eliminate the technical barriers that kept interactive content creation in the hands of specialists. After spending more than a decade researching AI and earning his PhD at Stanford, he watched advances in code generation, computer vision, and generative models converge toward a single realization: the tools required to build games were finally becoming accessible to everyone.

“The problem with creating interactive content was that the creation tools were not there,” he says. “You needed coding, artwork, assets, and multiple people to make one experience. AI changed that.”

Today, creators on Astrocade build entire playable experiences through conversation. Instead of writing code, they simply describe what they want, refining mechanics, environments, music, and gameplay through natural language prompts. The platform handles the technical complexity behind the scenes, allowing users to focus on imagination rather than implementation.

Yet Sadeghian is quick to point out that eliminating technical barriers does not automatically produce great games.

“Creating a game is still hard,” he says. “You don’t need to code anymore, but making a good game requires precision.”

He points to Flappy Bird as an example. Change the bird’s gravity or movement speed by a small amount, and a globally addictive game suddenly becomes frustrating or unplayable. The challenge is no longer writing code but understanding what makes an experience genuinely fun. That insight has become one of Astrocade’s competitive advantages. Rather than relying solely on AI, the company has cultivated a rapidly growing creator community that continues refining and improving experiences.

That community has become one of Astrocade’s strongest assets. According to Sadeghian, the platform now reaches approximately one million daily players, generates roughly 220 million gameplay sessions each month, and supports hundreds of thousands of creators spanning more than 80 countries. Together they have built an ecosystem where content reflects diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, from educational games created by teachers to culturally specific experiences that would likely never emerge from traditional game studios.

For Sadeghian, these creators represent something far more significant than user growth metrics. They validate a philosophy that has driven some of the internet’s most successful platforms.

He describes Astrocade as a user-generated content platform, much like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or X. Rather than depending on a small number of creative directors to determine what millions of people consume, the platform empowers millions of individuals to experiment, create, and publish. Statistically, he argues, extraordinary content becomes inevitable when enough people are given the opportunity to create.

“I can tell you the science behind why user-generated content is so successful,” he says, comparing the process to thousands of people simultaneously flipping coins. While any one individual has little chance of producing something extraordinary, increasing participation dramatically increases the likelihood that someone creates something exceptional. The same principle, he believes, applies to creativity.

That philosophy also shapes how Sadeghian views competition. While some speculate that AI-generated games could threaten major studios, he sees Astrocade expanding the market rather than replacing it.

“Did YouTube kill Hollywood?” he asks. “Christopher Nolan is still making incredible movies.”

Instead, he believes AI lowers production costs for established studios while simultaneously creating an entirely new generation of creators who never previously had access to game development. Just as YouTube created careers for millions of independent creators without replacing traditional filmmaking, Astrocade aims to make interactive entertainment accessible to anyone with an idea.

The result is more than entertainment. Sadeghian believes interactive creation has meaningful social value.

“Our mission is sharing happiness and fun with the world,” he says. “Play is one of the most fundamental human needs. You learn through play. You socialize through play.”

That perspective explains why he hopes conversations around Astrocade focus less on artificial intelligence itself and more on the platform’s broader societal impact. The technology matters, but only because it enables more people to create, share experiences, and connect through ideas that previously existed only in their imagination.

As Astrocade continues to expand, the company is investing heavily in the creator ecosystem that powers its platform. Sadeghian says the company is preparing new initiatives designed to give creators even more opportunities to build, publish, and ultimately earn through interactive content. The goal is to make creating an interactive experience as accessible and culturally commonplace as publishing a video or posting on social media.

For Sadeghian, success will not be measured solely by technological breakthroughs or funding milestones. It will be measured by how many people discover they can create worlds of their own, and how many more get to play, explore, learn, and connect inside them. His ambition extends beyond empowering millions of creators. It is ultimately about enabling billions of people to experience interactive worlds that are more participatory, social, and mentally engaging than passive forms of entertainment. If previous generations were defined by platforms that democratized publishing, photography, and video, he believes the next generation may democratize interactive experiences themselves.

The tools are finally ready. Now, anyone with an idea can build a world, and potentially millions of others can step inside it.
