Highline Beta ETH Launches Ethereum-First Venture Studio to Power the Next Internet Layer

Bets big on Ethereum’s future with early traction—and Vitalik Buterin’s father on board.

Highline Beta Ethereum First Venture Studio

Toronto-based Highline Beta, a venture studio known for co-building startups with corporations, family offices and founders, is doubling down on Web3 with the launch of Highline Beta ETH, a new Ethereum-focused vertical venture studio. The move marks a significant expansion into the blockchain space, aimed at accelerating the shift from Web2 to Web3 through hands-on company building within the Ethereum ecosystem.

In a strategic move that underscores its belief in Ethereum as the foundation for the next generation of the internet, Highline Beta has launched a vertical venture studio focused exclusively on the Ethereum ecosystem. The initiative, led by Managing Director Nigel Da Costa, is not only a bet on Ethereum’s technological depth but also a play to reshape how venture studios operate in Web3.

“We started this studio because we believe Ethereum is the foundational infrastructure for the next generation of the internet. Our conviction comes from Ethereum’s developer activity, credible roadmap, and the sheer breadth of innovation happening on-chain from DeFi to NFTs to real-world assets and identity. We were also very fortunate to have Dmitry Buterin join Highline Beta ETH as a Venture Partner. Aside from being an extraordinary person and investor in Highline Beta, Dmitry is also the father of Vitalik, the creator of Ethereum.”

The new studio, Highline Beta ETH, is taking a different path than traditional VCs or generalist venture studios. With a sharp focus on Ethereum, Da Costa believes the vertical model offers a unique advantage.

“Focus. Being vertical means we move faster, learn faster, and build deeper,” he explained. “We’re not chasing every trend, we’re selectively validating with the goal of building high-conviction companies solving real-world problems.”

Highline Beta ETH isn’t just an investment vehicle—it’s a builder. Unlike venture capital firms that allocate capital or horizontal studios that spread across sectors, this studio embeds itself entirely in Ethereum’s world.

“Unlike VCs, we don’t just invest, we create. Unlike horizontal studios, we’re not context-switching across industries,” Da Costa said. “Our playbook, partnerships, and talent network are purpose-built for Ethereum.”

Helping to strengthen the studio’s Ethereum roots is the addition of Dmitry Buterin, father of Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin, who has joined Highline Beta ETH as a Venture Partner.

Filling the Gaps in Ethereum Venture Building

While generalist venture firms and studios are plentiful in Web3, few are deeply embedded in the Ethereum ecosystem. That’s where Da Costa sees the opportunity.

“We know we can utilize the amazing team and structure at Highline Beta to validate and de-risk ventures, and help maximize the opportunities for success,” he said. “We also work with corporates to help them validate and build businesses with a key problem in mind, this is something we as a studio thrive on.”

The studio’s operational model is designed to test, iterate, and scale fast. Every venture idea goes through a structured venture design sprint, followed by rapid prototyping and on-chain market validation. Once traction signals appear, the team builds around it—with capital attached.

“We validate fast. Every idea goes through a structured venture design sprint, followed by rapid prototyping. We test assumptions in-market and on-chain, and once we see traction signals, we build out a team and attach capital,” Da Costa noted.

A Vision for Ethereum’s Next Chapter

Looking ahead, Da Costa sees Ethereum evolving beyond a developer-centric platform into a mainstream economic layer. The Highline Beta ETH studio is aligning itself with that trajectory.

“We believe Ethereum will evolve from a developer playground into a mainstream economic layer. Real-world assets will move on-chain, consumer apps will become invisible on Ethereum, and identity and data will be owned by users, not platforms. Our studio is perfectly aligned with that vision. We’re building applications that abstract complexity, integrate with global infrastructure, and generate real economic activity, not just speculation. We also believe ETH’s recent tailwinds of L2 growth, ETF momentum, and institutional interest are just the beginning. The next cycle will be defined by real utility, and we’re here to build that.”

With early traction already visible, Highline Beta ETH is preparing for its first major moves. The studio is finalizing partnerships with major institutions and plans to announce its first venture in Q4 of 2025.

“We’ve already seen incredible early traction. We have spent time building relationships with corporates, builders and investors. We’re also finalizing a partnership with some major institutions in crypto and beyond,” said Da Costa. “We plan on announcing our first venture in Q4 of 2025.”

As Ethereum continues to mature and its ecosystem grows more complex, Highline Beta ETH’s laser focus may be just what’s needed to turn decentralized innovation into scalable, real-world businesses.
